Charity and Justice Committee

The purpose of this committee is to determine and respond to the needs of the people in our parish family, the local community, and the world. The immediate and long term goals are to work to change oppressive and unjust systems, laws, or policies. Examples of issues of concern are anti-life actions, immorality, and racism.

We work closely with the North Dakota Catholic Conference via a Legislative Action Network with local and state chapters of Right to Life.

We sponsor a benefit breakfast to support the local homeless shelter and distribute Christmas baskets to needy families from St. Mary's or others known to our parish family.

We oversee the distribution of funds given by parish members to directly assist the poor who are in hardship or emergency situations and by supporting people and agencies that help people in need.

We raise awareness of environmental, refugee, disaster, and hunger relief issues as well.

The Committee meets the 1st Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the rectory. Contact Hero Barth for more information, 255-3387.

Health and Wellness Committee

The Health and Wellness Committee of the Parish Pastoral Council was formed in response to St. Mary's Strategic Plan. This committee focuses on promoting the well-being of individuals, families, parish family, and community. It recognizes that health involves the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. It is motivated by knowing that when people are well, they are able to live out God's calling for their lives to a fuller extent.

Two questions the Health and Wellness Committee strives to address are:

How can we take responsibility for and care for our body, mind and spirit that has been gifted to us?
How can we as St. Mary's Parish Family be the healing presence of Christ to each other?

We respond to this challenge by:

Promoting a more far reaching healing ministry.
Raising people's consciousness about the healing ministry of Christ in our parish.
Increasing the sensitivity of people to the needs of others.
Developing a network of individuals in the parish who are willing to minister to others in wellness, support and service.
Focusing on disease prevention, health promotion, education, and training with health screenings, health fairs, and other special events and classes.
