Habits of Servant Leaders
| This third grader at St. Mary's Grade School explains how he "puts first things first" as a servant leader. His views are part of the Habits of Servant Leaders presentation students deliver to area groups and organizations. |
Each year in January, two students from every class grades 1-8 are chosen to represent St. Mary's Grade School as part of the student speakers' team. The 16 students prepare talking points on their interpretation of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Dr. Stephen Covey. The habits include:- Be Proactive (First Grade)
- Begin with the End in Mind (Second Grade)
- Put First Things First (Third Grade)
- Think Win-Win (Fourth Grade)
- Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood (Fifth Grade)
- Synergize (Sixth Grade)
- Sharpen the Pencil (Seventh Grade)
- The Benefits of Using the Habits (Eighth Grade)
The students deliver an engaging, often humorous, 30-minute presentation for local and statewide organizations. To date, they've addressed groups with the University of Mary Harold Schafer Leadership Center, Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce, Golden Kiwanis, Lion's Club, Bismarck-Mandan Retired Teachers Association, Presbyterian Women, Optimist's Club, North Dakota League of Cities and Bismarck-Mandan Young Professionals Network.
